DSSC, DA-XI inaugurate SMART Agri Radio facility
Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) together with the Department of Agriculture- Regional Field Office XI (DA-XI) inaugurated the SMART Agri Radio (SAR) facility on May 30, 2022.
The said facility is located at the second floor of the DSSC General Education Building.
Rev. Fr. Joel R. Codilla, DCD, presided the blessing of the facility which was attended by the faculty radio broadcasters, Development Communication faculty members, and other personnel of the college.
Meanwhile, a short Inauguration program followed where Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President and RTD Andres Alemania, representing the Office of the Regional Executive Director Mr. Abel James I. Monteagudo, gave their messages.
Fuentes gave her message as she emphasized her gratefulness and greetings to all who made the station finally established.
“Only DSSC was given the opportunity to have this project from Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XI (DA-RFO XI) and the Farm and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation (F2C2) program, we are so thankful that the DSSC was entrusted with this first SUC community radio station funded by DA. Thus, in return, we will improve the SMART Agri Radio for all listeners, for all our beloved students, farmers, fisherfolks, and other information seekers,” Fuentes said.
Then, the traditional ribbon-cutting was attended by Fuentes and Alemania together with Dr. Luciano D. Nasibog Jr., Chief Administrative Officer; Dr. Siverlyn M. Camposano, Director for Instruction; Prof. Rae Katherine D. Adona, DevCom Program Chair; and Engr. Lorenzo Vermillo, F2C2 Focal Person, and other personnel from DSSC and DA-XI.
“I can say the DSSC now was technologically matured to have the resources for this station to be operated. This community radio was highly important not just for the students to experience and utilize their knowledge and experience in this field but for our fisherfolks and farmers to gain new research-based knowledge from here in DSSC in terms of how to develop their livelihood and source of income,” Alemania commented.
Recently, SAR was granted an affiliation with SKIA Broadcasting Center.
The SMART Agri Radio is the first agri-based community radio station in the province. It is now on its second month of test broadcast. (Shawn Medina, DSSC-PAO)
