DSSC opens new academic year with in-person, hybrid orientations

 

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) kicked-off the Academic Year 2022-2023 with a hybrid Welcome Assembly and Orientation for first year, upper-level students, transferees, and parents on August 23, 24, 27 & 30, 2022.

 

Organized by the Office of the Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) and Supreme Student Government (SSG), the series of events were conducted in-person while being streamed live over DSSC SSG Facebook page.

 

On August 23, 2022, the Institute of Business Education and Governance, Institute of Agriculture and Related Sciences (IARS), and CAS Matanao conducted their respective orientations while the Institute of Computing, Engineering and Technology (ICET) and Institute of Teacher Education (ITED) and Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS) followed on August 24, 2022. Meanwhile, the Instiute of Graduate and Professional Education (IGPE) conducted their in-person orientation on August 27, 2022 at the DSSC Gym, DSSC Main Campus, Digos City.On the other hand, DSSC Sulop Extension Campus conducted their orientation on August 30, 2022 at Sulop Municipal Covered Court, Poblacion, Sulop, Davao del Sur.

 

In her welcome message, Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President said that the college is doing its best to provide students with rich array of opportunities for them to learn to grow and discover who you are and how you will make a difference in the world. She also stressed the importance of the involvement of parents in the academic journey of the students

 

The institute deans introduced the line-up of faculty members and the academic policies of their institute. Present during their respective institute orientations were Dr. Cherry Ann P. Roxas (IBEG), Dr. Juan P. Agudera (IARS); Engr. Eduardo A. Aquino (ICET), Dr. Cindy B. Rosil (ITED), Dr. Gemma P. Salasalan (IAS); and Dr. Amilie T. Bello (IGPE).

 

Aside from the academic policies, the non-academic policies and services were also discussed.

 

Dr. Zandro P. Ibanez, OSAS Director briefed the students and parents about the school policies and all academic procedures for the students, while the admission policies and guidance services for the students were discussed by Dr. Jeric Anthony Arnado, DSSC Guidance Counselor.

 

Prof. Cecile C. Lofranco, DSSC Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person, presented the Basic GAD Concepts. She also raised awareness about all forms of violence not just against women, but against different genders; while Dr. Queenie Lyn G. Almerez, Scholarship Coordinator also explained the scholarship services, as well as the office function.

 

After that, SSG President Hon. Jerve Robin Paterno introduced the SSG officers, then led the open forum.

 

Each orientation was concluded with a photo opportunity and a quick school tour.

 

As of this writing, the Registrar’s Office recorded more or less 5,400 students enrolled in graduate and undergraduate programs in this current semester (Shawn Medina/DSSC-PAO)
