DSSC Launches Student Uniform| Inks MOA with Provincial Tribal Council

October 7, 2024 - Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) proudly launched the approved design of the Students’ Uniform highlighting an indigenous people inspired symbol uniting the major indigenous cultural communities in Davao del Sur.

The unveiling ceremony brought together key figures, including members of the Provincial Tribal Council (PTC), Tribal Chieftains, and representatives from the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). Among those present were DSSC President, Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, , and Bae Norma O. Rivera, the Provincial Tribal Chieftain, who engaged in meaningful discussions about the significance of the new symbol and its reflection of the four major Indigenous groups in Davao del Sur. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that the symbol serves as a poignant reminder of shared identity and values within the community.

In addition to introducing the approved design with embroidered symbol, the event facilitated dialogue on its practical application, with Tribal leaders offering insights into its integration into local practices and the uniforms of DSSC students. This collaborative effort aims to foster unity among Indigenous communities and instill a sense of cultural pride among students.

The launch of the unity symbol underscores DSSC’s ongoing support for Indigenous Peoples and their cultural practices. As this symbol becomes embedded within the community, it serves as a continual reminder of the commitment to celebrating and preserving the rich heritage of Davao del Sur's Indigenous Peoples.

In a significant follow-up to this initiative, a Memorandum of Agreement Signing was also conducted to formalize the commitment of the college in recognizing and preserving the cultural heritage of the province's Indigenous Peoples. This partnership reflects a mutual commitment to empowering Indigenous Peoples through sustainable development and cultural preservation efforts. The MOA outlines responsibilities for both parties in ensuring the integration of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices into academic programs, thus facilitating a more inclusive educational environment. This agreement not only strengthens the relationship between DSSC and local tribes but also serves as a foundation for ongoing dialogue and cooperation in promoting Indigenous rights and heritage.
