The Davao del Sur State College Community Radio Station (DSSC CRS) Team visited DXEC 87.9 Radyo Kidlat Dasureco FM station on November 25, 2021 to conduct benchmarking activity. The DSSC CRS team was headed by Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President together with DSSC CRS personnel Rae Katherine D. DSSC signs MoA on Tambayayong Hubs Network, launches PASIBANTUG Hub

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) and Philippine Women’s College of Davao (PWC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Tambayayong Hubs Network (THN), a Heritage-based Creative Enterprise for Social Impact Hubs Network. In a virtual appreciation program and signing of the creative hubs consortium on November 16, 2021, Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President and Prof. Vicente Antonio V. Pijano III, PWC Chancellor signed the said MoA that primarily aims to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize global and local partnerships for sustainable development.

Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President attended the Turnover Ceremony and Soft Opening of Davao del Sur Olympic-size Swimming Pool. Governor Marc Douglas C. Cagas IV led the Ribbon Cutting and the unveiling of Commemorative Landmark. During the Program, the laws passed by Congresswoman Mercedes “Didi” Cagas, Lone District Representative of Davao del Sur were presented including Republic Act No. 11220 establishing Davao del Sur State College.

DSSC QA advocates attend AACUP capability training

Academic and administrative personnel and Quality Assurance (QA) advocates of Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) attended the capability training on July 13-15, 2021 via Zoom Teleconferencing. Headed by Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President, at least 30 QA advocates from DSSC joined the Capability Training of Internal Quality Assurance Teams conducted by Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). During the 3-day virtual webinar, resource speakers from AACUP facilitated various sessions to capacitate the participants. On July 13, 2021, Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, Chair/President of AACUP Board of Trustees and Tarlac State University President provided an overview of the Online Accreditation System and Internal Quality Assurance Unit Office. Meanwhile, Dr. Milabel E. Ho, AACUP Executive Director focused on planning, preparing, and managing the online accreditation visit.

DSSC to co-host DRMRC 2021 — Davao del Sur State College together with Compostela Valley State College will co-host the 1st Davao Region Multidisciplinary Research Conference (DRMRC 2021) on October 8, 2021 via Zoom Teleconferencing. With the theme “Bouncing Back Together: Strengthening Regional Research Initiatives in the New Normal,” this free virtual conference aims to provide a forum for attendees to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences in order to achieve growth goals while also fostering networking.

Vaccination rollout starts at DSSC

More than 100 students from Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) received their first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on November 2, 2021 at DSSC Gymnasium in line with Sama-Samang Vaccination Program for Tertiary Students in Davao Region. The said Vaccination Program is an inoculation program initiated by Commission on Higher Education-Region Office XI (CHED-XI) in partnership with Department of Health- Region XI (DOH-XI). During her visit to DSSC, Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, CHED-XI Regional Director said that this vaccination drive aims to convince students to get vaccinated against COVID-19. She added that it is better if more students be vaccinated to prepare them in case the limited face-to-face classes will commence. Among the students who received the first dose is Alyssa Manulad, 20, and a 2nd year Education student of DSSC. “I was never hesitant to be vaccinated because I know that vaccines are effective. I want to be vaccinated in preparation for the face-to-face classes,” Manulad said.

Statement of Support of Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President to CHED on the Adoption of Flexible Learning

More than ever, we need to step up to survive and thrive in the New Normal. It is incredible to see how quickly we have move away from business as usual. The good thing on this crisis is that it is not a struggle of DSSC alone, but all of the HEIs locally, of the whole country and even the whole world. It is the right time to help each other, collaborate and share best experiences adaptable to certain HEI. We need to motivate our people, the faculty and staff, our client and partners to never give up despite this seemingly insurmountable challenge. We need to create breakthrough strategies & motivate team to execute these strategies. Despite the physical isolation, we need to recognize that this time is the best time to connect with people. We have to accept the new realities and strive to stay on course. “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance with the rain” according to Vivian Greene Davao del Sur State College commits to continue to adopt Flexible Learning in this time when students and teachers must be protected from the risks of COVID-19. As we assessed our students’ accessibility to technology and their location, we decided to adopt the Flexible Learning as the framework of our Learning Continuity Plan. Flexible Learning ensures the continuity of accessible and inclusive education in the time of pandemic. It also provides opportunities for pedagogical innovation for our teachers. And most importantly, it addresses our students’ various needs in terms of process, and products of learning as Flexible Learning allow them to learn where and when it suits them. In light of the continuing health risks brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, we support the implementation of Flexible Learning in Higher Education Institutions espoused by the Commission on Higher Education. Together with our students, teachers, academic officials and other stakeholders, Davao del Sur State College moves forward with Flexible Learning as the “better way to go.”

DSSC receives P4-M for massive production, distribution of vegetable seeds, seedlings

The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office XI (DA-RFO XI) turned over to Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) PhP 4,000,000.00 in funds for the Massive Production and Distribution on Vegetable Seeds and Seedlings Project on June 11, 2021 at DSSC Campus, Matti, Digos City, Davao del Sur. DA-RFO XI partnered with DSSC to assist the agriculture industry of Davao del Sur through the program Massive Production and Distribution of Seeds/Seedlings for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). The fund, sourced from the Bayanihan Act II- Stimulus Package for Agriculture Program, will be used to assist farmers to enhance and sustain their livelihood through the project “S & T Based Vegetable Production: Enhance Food Security and Improve Livelihood through Sustainable Vegetable Production in Davao del Sur” Present during the turnover were Merriel A. Bernardo, High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Coordinator of DA-RFO XI who turned over the check to Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President. Witnessing the turnover were Ronnie Mahinay, Jr., Project Assistant I for DA-RFO XI; and Dr. Mark Jude F. Trondillo, Director of Research and Development and Extension Office; Lilibeth L.
