DSSC Joins First Quarter Nationwide Earthquake Drill

Davao del Sur State College joined the 2026 First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 12, 2026, at 3:30 PM, as part of the nationwide effort to strengthen disaster preparedness in schools and institutions.

Faculty members, staff, students, and visitors across the campus took part in the activity by practicing the standard safety steps followed during earthquakes. Participants observed the “duck, cover, and hold” procedure before calmly proceeding to designated evacuation areas.

Earlier in the day, an orientation was conducted at the DSSC Boardroom for the drill committees and designated leaders to ensure that the activity will be conducted smoothly. Deans of the college also designated representatives from their respective programs to assist the students in the drill.

Moreover, external evaluators were present during the activity to observe the conduct of the drill, members from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), the Philippine Red Cross, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The activity served as a reminder for the campus community to stay prepared and know what to do in case an actual earthquake occurs. Regular drills help students and employees become more familiar with evacuation routes and safety procedures.

By taking part in the nationwide drill, DSSC continues to support efforts that encourage disaster awareness and preparedness. The activity also reflects the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, which promotes safer and more resilient communities.
