Japanese Researchers Visit Davao del Sur for Courtesy Call and DROSS Consultation

Davao del Sur State College took part in a consultation meeting on the Davao Region Online Synthesis System (DROSS) on March 16, 2026, held at the DSSC Boardroom, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The activity gathered representatives from several institutions involved in disaster monitoring and preparedness. It was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Davao Region in partnership with the Hydrology for Environment, Life and Policy (HELP) – Davao Network and the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) of Japan.

Earlier that day, representatives from DSSC joined the DOST Davao Region team, HELP–Davao Network, and ICHARM Japan in a courtesy visit to the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur. The meeting with provincial officials focused on cooperation in disaster risk reduction efforts and how institutions can work together to support regional monitoring initiatives.

After the courtesy visit, the delegation proceeded to the DSSC campus where the consultation on the DROSS platform was conducted. During the meeting, participants discussed how the system can be used to monitor weather conditions and water-related hazards by gathering information from different agencies through a unified platform.

The discussion also looked at how local government units and partner institutions can contribute data that may help strengthen early warning systems and improve disaster response planning in the region.

Through its participation, DSSC joined the ongoing effort to connect academic institutions with government and international partners working on disaster preparedness. The initiative also supports Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by encouraging cooperation in building safer and more resilient communities.
