Life Behind Bars Equips PDL with Urban/Vertical Gardening and Organic Input Production Skills

The Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) through the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences (CARS), conducted two valuable skills training at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Digos Female Dormitory on March 3, 2025. The event was organized through its LIFE Behind Bars Program that aims to equip the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) with practical and sustainable agricultural skills.

The skills training on urban/vertical gardening and organic input production was simultaneously conducted where PDLs are equipped with skills and knowledge on how to grow vegetables in small, confined spaces using innovative and resource efficient techniques.

Through the LIFE Behind Bars Program of the college, DSSC continues its commitment in offering training that will support the PDL’s personal growth and equipping them with the necessary skills for their future.

Aligning with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice , and Strong Institutions), the College fortified its role as a partner in community development and social transformation.
