DSSC Tudlok and City Vice Mayor’s Office Honors Leadership Through Art

The Davao del Sur State College Tudlok Visual Artists Guild has been commissioned to create eighteen charcoal portraits of the Vice Mayors who have served the Municipality and, later, the City of Digos.

The project came through an official request from the Office of the City Vice Mayor, with the aim of preserving a piece of Digos City’s legislative history and giving proper recognition to those who held the position over the years.

Each portrait is assigned to a single Tudlok artist. That arrangement is deliberate. It gives every student-artist full ownership of their piece and room to bring their own hand and sensibility to the work, rather than producing something uniform.

All eighteen portraits will be displayed at the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Digos City, where they will stand as a record of public service, local heritage, and the kind of craft that takes years to develop.

The project reflects a working relationship between the City Government of Digos and Davao del Sur State College that goes beyond paperwork. It puts student artists in front of a real commission, with a real audience, and ties their work to something the city will keep.

This initiative supported Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by giving student-artists of the Tudlok Visual Artists Guild hands-on experience through a real professional commission, extending learning well beyond the classroom. It also contributed to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by preserving the legislative history and cultural heritage of Digos City through portraiture that the community will hold for generations. SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) is likewise reflected in the collaboration between the City Government of Digos and Davao del Sur State College, joining public office and academic institutions in a shared effort to honor history and develop young artistic talent.

Art preserves history. History inspires generations.
