Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) through the College of Business Education and Governance (CBEG) – Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) program has brought pride to the institution after student delegates from DSSC Main and Sulop Extension Campus was named 2nd Runner Up in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Critical Intervention Award (Media Discourse Center), during the 8th SDG Film Festival 2026.
The recognition was conferred during the Awards Ceremony on July 2, 2026, where the team emerged among more than 50 film entries from universities, institutions, and student filmmakers across different countries.
The Festival featured the International Sustainability Conference on June 24, with a film screening on June 30, and concluded with the Awards Ceremony on July 2, 2026. Organized by the LSPR Institute of Communication & Business in Jakarta, Indonesia, the 7th SDG Film Festival serves as an international platform that promotes the SDGs through creative storytelling and filmmaking.
DSSC delegates presented a short film titled “If Poverty Had a Face,” an SDG 1 (No Poverty) focused film that centers on the realities faced by individuals and communities experiencing poverty and its impact on education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, equality, and sustainable development, with a narrative that laid out the importance of collective action in addressing poverty and promoting inclusive development.
Under the mentorship of CBEG-IZN Focal Person Dr. Raphson Elesterio and DSSC-P2A Coordinator Neil Shane Ngojo, MPA, students were able to cope with script-writing, shooting, and editing hurdles and successfully participated in the international competition.
This international recognition shows the dedication, creativity, and social responsibility practiced within DSSC. By using this film as a platform for advocacy and positive change, DSSC shows support for various SDGs, particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
