Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) held its Universityhood Pre-Assessment on July 20, 2026, at the college’s Mini-Theatre, gathering key officials, academic heads, and staff for a full-day review that ran from 8:30 in the morning to five in the afternoon.
The activity was organized to prepare the college for its formal assessment toward university status, covering a structured program that walked participants through the rationale of the process, a briefing on pre-assessment procedures, and area-by-area presentations of pre-assessment results.
Dr. Siverlyn M. Camposano, Vice President for Academic Affairs, opened the substantive portion of the program by laying out the rationale behind the activity. The welcome message was delivered by College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, who set the tone for the day with a message that was both measured and firm. “This is not just a review. This is proof that everything we have been building, every program, every investment, every effort this institution has made, is pointing in one direction. We are ready for this next step.”
The pre-assessment briefing was conducted by the Director IV of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI, giving participants a clear picture of what the formal evaluation would require and how the day’s review would feed into it.
The pre-assessment results were then presented per area by designated college officials. Dr. Amelie Trinidad, Director for Instruction, handled U1 (Enrolment Data) and U2 (Profile of Faculty) for the Graduate School. Dr. Siverlyn M. Camposano covered U2 for the Undergraduate level. Dr. Cherry Ann P. Roxas, Director for Research Development and Innovation, presented U3 (Research Involvement of Full-time Faculty) and U4 (Annual Research). Rosedilla L. Janson, College Librarian, took U5 (Library Resource Center), while Prof. Kris Kristofferson T. Tan, Dean of the College of Mathematics and Sciences, presented U6 (Support Structures). Dr. Queenielyn Almeres, Director for Extensions, closed the presentations with U7 (Partners) and U8 (Outreach Programs).
The assessment and evaluation proper was carried out by the CHED Regional Office XI technical team, composed of Dr. Mariceas Carquejo, Regional Director; Dr. Christopher Pio Pulido, Chief Education Supervisor; Dr. Lourdes D. Cesar, Education Supervisor II; Rodrigo S. Pangantihon Jr., Education Supervisor II; and Leselle Condeza, Education Supervisor. Their review covered the college’s compliance with the standards required for university conversion.
Closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Luciano D. Nasibog, Jr., Vice President for Administration and Finance, while Dhominic T. Arendain served as host for the day’s proceedings.
The Universityhood Pre-Assessment supported Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by moving the college closer to a higher institutional classification, which would expand its ability to deliver quality and advanced academic offerings. It also tied into SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the college’s demonstrated commitment to strengthening its research, academic, and institutional foundations as part of the conversion requirements. SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)is likewise reflected in the active engagement of CHED Regional Office XI, where their technical team worked side-by-side with the college in a shared push to lift the quality bar of higher education across the region.
