The Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) of Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) conducted its Second Quarter Monitoring and Assessment of Funded Research and Extension Projects on July 16 and 17, 2026, covering several sites across the Province of Davao del Sur.
Engr. Clara A. Acebes, Ph.D., led the field visits alongside ORDI Director Dr. Cherry B. Roxas, DBA, and Dr. Queenie Lyn G. Almerez, Ph.D., Director for Extension and Community Relations. Project leaders accompanied the team to each location. The monitoring was meant to assess actual implementation on the ground and to provide technical guidance to project proponents where it was needed.
The first day brought the team to Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, to review “Empowering Indigenous Communities: Strengthening Leadership and Governance from the Ground Up,” a project that includes a component specifically for women indigenous peoplesโ leaders. The team also assessed “Empowering Communities: Building Resilient STCBF Bamboo Enterprises in Vulnerable Areas of Davao del Sur,” followed by the second year of “Regenerative Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence in Sustaining Mangrove Ecosystems for Resilient and Innovative Coastal Communities in Davao del Sur (Year 2)” a mangrove ecosystem project in Sta. Cruz, which applies regenerative agriculture and artificial intelligence to coastal community development. The day concluded in Barangay Colorado, Digos City, with a review of the Barangay Integrated Development Action (B.I.D.A.) project on improving official correspondence and local governance practices.
The second day started with school visits. The team went to San Miguel Elementary School and Arcaflor Maniapao Elementary School, both in Digos City, to evaluate the success of implementation of “Building Foundation Literacy: EmpowerEd Support for Learners at Risk” and “Empowering Education (EmpowerEd): A Holistic Extension Program for Students’ Success, Teachers’ Growth, Parental Involvement, and Community Empowermentโ. This project had two goals; to improve literacy and numeracy skills, and to involve the community by providing extension services at school.
Afterwards, the team proceeded to Mt. Apo Coffee and Agroforestry Development Center in Barangay Bacoco, Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur, to monitor the project development on โIntegrated Nutrient Management for Productivity, Quality, and Economic Performance of Arabica Coffee under the Mt. Apo Conditions (Components 1 and 2)โ, a research initiative on sustainable Arabica Coffee production.
The two-day monitoring concluded in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, with the assessment of the project on scaling up primary commodities through regenerative agriculture and artificial intelligence. Through the quarterly activity, ORDI maintained its responsibility to see that funded projects remain on course and continue to serve the communities for which they were designed.
The projects assessed during the monitoring contribute to SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting the breadth of DSSC’s research and extension work across the province.
