Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) through its Research Center for Emerging Pollutants (RCEP) successfully conducted a three day Installation and Orientation Training on Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometer, MAP-100 Microplastics Sample Preparation System, and Cold Vapor Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (CV-AAS) on July 28-30, 2026 at DSSC Cacao Sensory and Isotope Laboratory.
The newly acquired instrument was funded by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) to help the college advance in scientific research, environmental monitoring , and laboratory innovation. The acquisition of the MAP-100 Microplastics Sample Preparation System is also a significant achievement for DSSC-RCEP as the first of its kind in the Philippines.
Facilitated by Shimadzu Philippines Corporation Technical Specialist Mr. Franco Vittorio Singson, RCh, the training equipped participants with the knowledge and technical skills necessary for the proper operation and application of the instruments in research and laboratory analyses.
This activity shows DOST-PCIEERD’s continuous support to DSSC’s strengthened research capabilities among higher education institutions, and enables the college to contribute to scientific innovation and sustainable development, aligning with various Sustainable Development Goals particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education); SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure); SDG 13 (Climate Action); and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
