The Altut-tuna Research Team of Davao del Sur State College brought its findings to Matanao on August 3, 2026. The presentation was held at Barangay Colonsabac and was attended by the municipal mayor, the barangay captain, the chieftain, and other unit heads of the local government, along with representatives from the Provincial Local Government Unit of Davao del Sur and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
The study was commissioned by the Municipal Local Government Unit of Matanao in support of its intent to declare Mt. Dumalao Altut-tuna a Local Conservation Area. DSSC conducted the environmental assessment in November 2025, covering the biological, physical, and socio-economic characteristics of the area. Those findings formed the scientific basis of what the team laid before the Matanao executives that day.
Stakeholders used the session to validate the results and contribute technical inputs. The meeting closed with a formal declaration of support from those present for the proposed LCA declaration.
The initiative aligns with SDG 15 (Life on Land) through science-based biodiversity work, SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by grounding a local governance decision in verified research findings, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the working relationship between DSSC and the local government units of Matanao and Davao del Sur.
