Davao del Sur State College hosted the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for a three day onsite evaluation visit for College’s application for the Master of Science in Horticulture (MSc-Hort) and Master in Information Technology (MIT) programs, on August 12-14, 2026, at the DSSC Boardroom.
The evaluation was to validate DSSC’s compliance with CHED’s Policies, Standards, and Guidelines under CMO No. 15, s. 2019, covering key areas such as curriculum implementation, faculty qualifications, instructional resources, research initiatives, student support services, facilities and other requirements for a graduate-level program delivery.
The three day activity opened with a welcoming message from the College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, followed by the introduction of the College’s key officials, and the presentation of the CHED Evaluation team led by CHEDRO XI Education Supervisor Engr. Rodrigo S. Pangantihon Jr.
The first day focused on the review of documentary requirements and other institutional submissions. The evaluation centered on the Master in Information Technology program, where the faculty task force presented the program’s curriculum, faculty qualifications, research activities, partnerships, and other supporting documents. The college also presented available evidence and responded to the evaluation team’s queries regarding the program.
At the end of the MIT evaluation, Dr. Dave Marcial, Chairperson of the Technical Panel for Information Technology, delivered the general impression, providing comments and observations on the program’s presentation and compliance.
On the second day, the evaluation focused on the Master of Science in Horticulture program, including an onsite visit to the DSSC site at the Kapoc, Matanao Extension Campus. The evaluation team reviewed the program’s curriculum, faculty credentials, research activities, facilities, laboratories, and other resources supporting its implementation. The faculty task force also presented the program’s research agenda, partnerships, and other relevant activities.
The final day continues to evaluate MSc-Horticulture, where the evaluation team scrutinized additional documents, and assessed areas related to graduate level instruction, research facilities, faculty qualifications, library and horticulture resources, student support, admission policies, and other requirements under CHED standards.
Dr. Aimee Lyn Dupo, a member of the Technical Panel for Master in Science in Horticulture delivered the general impression for the program, sharing the evaluation team’s observations and areas that may still be improved.
The three day evaluation involved CHED Technical Panel, the Office of Programs and Standards Development (CHED-OPSD), and Regional Quality Assessment Team (CHED-RQAT), which assessed the College’s compliance with the applicable requirements for the two graduate programs.
During the culminating activity, CHEDRO XI Education Supervisor Lesele Condeza delivered the general impression, recognizing the College’s efforts and identifying areas that still need improvement. The activity concluded with a message from Dr. Fuentes who acknowledged the comments and recommendations of the evaluation team and assured her continued support for the College’s efforts to address the identified areas for improvement until the required standards are met.
This activity will help DSSC continue its stand in delivering excellence and quality education, aligned with Sustainable Development Goals SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
