DSSC Holds Two-Day Writeshop on Research Excellence and Global Scholarly Publication

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) brought together 150 faculty members and researchers on August 13 and 14, 2026, at Mega’s World Function Hall in Digos City for a seminar-workshop on advancing research excellence and global scholarly publication.

The activity was organized by the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Office and focused on a single practical goal: getting more DSSC research into Scopus-indexed journals and raising the college’s standing in global university rankings. This is the second writeshop facilitated by the GHF University Excellence team, and the first held exclusively for DSSC, allowing for more focused work aligned with the college’s research and internationalization goals.

College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes delivered the welcome message on the first day, setting the tone plainly. “We have good research in this institution. What we need now is to make sure the world can find it. That is what this writeshop is for, and I expect every one of you to leave here with something to submit.”

Two resource speakers handled the sessions: Prof. Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III covered the foundations of scientific publishing, global university rankings, and what it takes to write a paper that survives peer review. Jerico B. Ogaya took the sessions on building a competitive research agenda, diversifying research methodologies, and hands-on data analytics.

Day 2 moved into applied work. Participants went through indexing systems, journal selection, bibliometric analysis, and a manuscript development workshop where they worked on their own papers with direct input from the resource speakers. Each participant was expected to leave with a manuscript ready, or near ready, for journal submission.

The writeshop supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening the research capacity of DSSC faculty toward globally competitive publication, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the college’s push toward research-driven institutional development, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the engagement of external resource persons from GHF University Excellence in building DSSC’s publication and ranking readiness.
