Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) officially inaugurated the Davao del Sur State College–Research Center for Emerging Pollutants (DSSC-RCEP) on September 24, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the College’s continuing commitment to advancing environmental research, scientific innovation, and public health.
Supported by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), the DSSC-RCEP holds two significant distinctions: the first DOST-PCIEERD-funded Institutional Development Program in the Province of Davao del Sur and the first research center in the Philippines dedicated to emerging pollutants.
The inauguration gathered officials and representatives from DOST-PCIEERD, DOST Region XI, DSSC, and partner stakeholders, highlighting institutional collaboration in addressing emerging environmental challenges through science and technology.
In addition, Prof. Kris Kristofferson T. Tan, DSSC-RCEP Project Leader, presented the Center’s developments, research capabilities, and future directions, providing stakeholders with an overview of its role in advancing research in emerging pollutants.
Dr. Luciano D. Nasibog Jr., Vice President for Administration and Finance, welcomed the DOST-PCIEERD delegation and partner stakeholders and expressed the College’s gratitude for the trust and funding support extended by PCIEERD toward the establishment of the RCEP. Nasibog emphasized the importance of partnerships in strengthening the College’s research capabilities and expanding opportunities for scientific collaboration.
The event was also attended by Dr. Anthony C. Sales, Regional Director of DOST Region XI, together with the DOST-PCIEERD officials, Dr. Ruby Raterta, Chief of the Human Resources and Institution Development Division (HRIDD); Ms. Francesca Angeline Carranza, Project Manager; Ms. Judy Mae Asis, Project Technical Assistant; and Ms. Roxanne E. delos Reyes, Senior Science Research Specialist, HRIDD.
Prior to the inauguration, the DOST-PCIEERD team conducted an information session for DSSC faculty members and researchers, highlighting various research funding opportunities, programs, and support mechanisms available through PCIEERD.
The research center supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 17 (Partnership for Goals) by promoting relevant research, innovation, and partnerships that contribute to institutional and community development.
