35 female Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) engaged in hands-on visual arts activities as Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) Tudlok Visual Artists Guild brought creativity behind bars by conducting a Visual Arts Workshop at Digos City District Jail today, September 25.
As part of the LIFE Behind Bars Program, this workshop provided the participating PDLs with an opportunity to explore visual arts while learning basic techniques through guided activities.
Also, this initiative promoted art as a means of learning, self-expression, and engagement, while providing PDLs with opportunities to participate in creative activities.
Through its partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Digos City District, the DSSC Tudlok Visual Artists Guild extended its advocacy beyond the campus and provided the participants with an avenue to explore and develop their creativity.
The activity also reflects the Guild’s continuing efforts to use art to foster engagement and strengthen connections between the College and the wider community.
Lastly, this initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting inclusive learning opportunities and meaningful engagement among PDLs.
