Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), through its Regenerative Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence in Scaling-up Key Commodity Crops in Davao del Sur Program, conducted an organizational and learning site assessment of two farmer organizations in the province on September 25.
The assessment covered the Tibolo Farm Workers Association (TIFWA) in Sta. Cruz and the Bagobo Tagabawa Fair-Trade Marketing Cooperative (BATAFAMA) in Bansalan, focusing on their organizational structures, operational capacities, and readiness of their learning and demonstration sites.
During the activity, farmer-members shared concerns and challenges affecting their organizations, including the need to update member profiles and farm records, strengthen organizational databases, and expand market linkages. Opportunities to improve product accessibility through online platforms were also discussed.
The College of Business Education and Governance (CBEG) and the College of Information and Digital Sciences (CIDS) initiated this activity as part of the extension activities for the 126th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA).
This activity primarily advances SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by promoting sustainable and resilient agriculture, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration among farmer cooperatives. It also supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening rural enterprises and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the promotion of efficient and sustainable farming practices.
