DSSC Sulop Ext. Campus Conducts Research on Tagakaulo Agricultural Knowledge, Cultural Heritage

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) Sulop Extension Campus conducted a research activity documenting the Indigenous Agricultural Knowledge Systems and Cultural Heritage of the Tagakaulo Tribe in Malalag, Davao del Sur, on September 24-25, 2026.

Led by Project Leader, Instr. Jewe Manalo, together with the project staff and co-faculty members, Instr. Lou Daneille Lofranco, Instr. Roldan Oyao, and Instr. Emelyn Aglosolos, conducted the assessment in selected barangays of Lapu-Lapu, Mabini, Rizal, and San Isidro.

The activity was carried out in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Malalag through Municipal Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), Bae Brianie Tenorio Pasandala. Ten DSCC also assisted the research team in facilitating the research activities.

The assessment engaged Tagakaulo tribal chieftains, elders, youth, and farmers, whose knowledge, experiences, practices, and perspectives served as important sources of information for documenting their traditional agricultural practices and cultural heritage.

The research activity contributed to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Community.
