Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) conducted the seminar “Safe Campus, Secure Community: Strengthening Awareness and Prevention of Violence and Security Risks” on October 22, 2026, at the DSSC Mini Theater, bringing together school personnel to discuss campus safety, violence prevention, and security awareness.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Luciano D. Nasibog, Vice President for Admin and Finance, emphasized that prevention must be matched by practical action. “Prevention is better than responding. We can attend seminars like this, but it means little if we cannot apply what we learn. We will work together towards a safer, peaceful, and secure campus,” he said.
Organized by the Office of Student Affairs and Services, the seminar featured discussions on situational awareness during active shooting incidents and key provisions of Republic Act No. 8353 and Republic Act No. 11313. Resource persons from the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office led the sessions and addressed questions during the open forum.
The activity is part of the College’s efforts to help students and personnel recognize security risks, identify warning signs, and take appropriate preventive measures. A second session for selected students is scheduled for October 24, 2026.
DSSC maintains that campus safety and security are a shared responsibility among students, faculty, administrators, and personnel. The initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting a safer learning environment and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) through violence prevention and awareness of safety and security concerns.
