DSSC Celebrates Mental Health Day with Wellness Activities, Peer Support Initiatives

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), through the Guidance and Testing Center (GTC), celebrates Mental Health Day on October 26, 2026, at the DSSC Gymnasium with various activities promoting mental health awareness and well-being among students and employees.

Anchored on the theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” the celebration features initiatives to encourage self-care and emotional well-being across the College, including its extension campuses.

A mental health symposium was conducted for the students, alongside simultaneous mental health activities, prepared by officers of the Trusted Advocates for Lifeline and Kinship (TALK) organization and the GTC.

In addition, yesterday’s event featured eight stations, including Station 1: Face Painting Corner, Station 2: Candy Corner, Station 3: Ice Cream Corner, Station 4: Cotton Candy Corner, Station 5: Coffee & Hot Choco Corner, Station 6: Drop Box, Station 7: Water Station, and Station 8: Gratitude Wall.

For the faculty and staff, the GTC organized a pamper day offering free haircut, manicure, and pedicure services to promote relaxation and self-care.

Meanwhile, the College’s Mental Health celebration also extends to its extension campuses. The GTC conducted activities at Sulop Extension Campus on October 6, the Matanao Extension Campus on October 7, and Sta. Cruz Extension Campus on October 8. The activities included a short film presentation on mental health, followed by processing and reflection sessions.

Prof. Honey Rose E. Suerte-Ting, LPT, RGC, the Head of the GTC, expressed the importance of extending the same care and attention to oneself as one gives to others, as it is a necessary part of one’s well-being.

“Today is an opportunity to pause, relax, and recharge. Let us remind ourselves that self-care is not selfish. Let us continue to build a community where every voice is heard, every person feels supported, and no one has to face life challenges alone,” she added.

Through this, it supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting mental health awareness and giving opportunities to prioritize their well-being.
