DSSC and SPAMAST Hold Joint Institutional AACCUP Accreditation Orientation

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) and Southern Philippines Agribusiness and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) conducted a joint Institutional Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) Accreditation Orientation on January 28 to 29, 2026. The two-day activity brought together administrators, faculty members, and staff from both institutions to prepare for the institutional accreditation process.

DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes delivered a brief message and welcomed the participants. She emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in accreditation and reminded the group that the process requires consistency, coordination, and honest assessment across all offices. She explained that institutional accreditation serves two purposes because it functions as a compliance requirement while it helps organizations develop their systems for instructional research and public service activities.

The first day focused on setting the context for accreditation. Participants went through the requirements of the institutional survey and discussed the purpose and structure of the Institutional Accreditation Portfolio. Sessions covered the nine areas of assessment, including governance and management, teaching and learning, faculty and staff, research, extension and linkages, student support services, library resources, infrastructure, and quality assurance culture. The discussions helped participants understand how existing data can be organized and presented.

The second day of the event dedicated time to comprehensive evaluation and improvement work of the workshop results. The participants assessed the preliminary documents through their content analysis which included identifying missing elements and resolving existing problems. The guidance document defined the procedures which needed to be followed for digitizing accreditation documents and their subsequent upload process to maintain document uniformity and precise information across different departments.

The DSSC and SPAMAST joint orientation established their common ground they both needed for their quality assurance and institutional review activities. The space provided all offices which handle accreditation functions to work together in their essential accreditation activities. AACCUP experts facilitated the orientation, led by Executive Director, Dr. Milabel E. Ho, including Dr. Emmylou B. Yanga, Dr. Lawrence Anthony U. Dollente, and Mr. Dominic T. Martinez.

The activity supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through its development of internal quality systems while achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through its development of interdepartmental accountability systems and institutional partnership plans.
