DSSC Athletes Post Strong Finishes in Araw ng Dabaw 2026 Sports Events

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) athletes delivered commendable performances across various sporting events during the 89th Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

In taekwondo, DSSC’s Jona Mae C. Dechavez secured a Silver Medal, while Francis Brylle Cane earned a Gold Medal who respectively competed in the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation (GTTF) Taekwondo National Games held on March 22, 2026, at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Obrero Gymnasium, Davao City. 

The college also finished strong in the cycling events where Edeson Canada placed 2nd in the Mountain Biking (MTB) category, 8th in the Road Bike (RB) category during the Araw ng Dabaw Cycling Criterium Challenge on March 8, 2026, and secured 3rd place in the 89th Araw ng Dabaw Cross Country held on March 15, 2026, meanwhile Rexar John Nervida emerged as Champion in the Open Funride category of the Araw ng Dabaw Criterium Challenge, while Johnny L. Libre Jr, finished 7th in the 19-29 MTB Category.

In the Track and Field event, Bryner Cabigas placed 5th in the Javelin Throw (Open Category), and Jonathan Jr. Morales Ceniza also placed 5th in the 1500-meter run (Open Category). Furthermore, in the Uphill Sprint and Cross Country Short Circuit Challenge held on March 14-15, 2026, DSSC participants in the 19-20 category grasped Champion and 2nd place finish.

The results of this participation supports the promotion of sportsmanship, discipline, and student development beyond the classroom, aligning with the college’s support to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals particularly SDG 3 for Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 4 for Quality Education.
