DSSC holds Monday Convocation: Value focus on Charity

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) held its second Regular Monday Convocation for the month of September on September 14, 2026, at the DSSC Gymnasium. Sponsored by the College of Mathematics, Arts, and Sciences (CMAS), the event gathered the college community for values restoration and institutional updates.

Circulation Librarian, Marjorie T. Jorillo, MLIS, delivered the values restoration with the week’s value focus on ‘Charity’. She related the value on the value focus to the Parable of the Rich Young Man, reflecting the charity that goes beyond giving material possessions, as it also calls individuals to share time, knowledge, patience, and compassion with others. She talked about starting the act of charity in our own individual homes so that we may carry it to the college community, through simple acts of helping a colleague, sharing knowledge, and showing understanding to those facing difficulties.

It was followed by the presentation of updates from the sponsor office through an audio-visual presentation, with additional reminders from the Dean of CMAS, Prof. Kris Kristofferson T. Tan. The presentation included the college’s accomplishments and ongoing initiatives in practical and related fields.

The convocation also featured the oath-taking of newly hired DSSC personnel, formally welcoming them into their respective positions and responsibilities in the College.

In her message, College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes shared the College’s recognition as a finalist in the Lingkod Bayan Award, which highlights the collective efforts of DSSC personnel in serving the institution and its stakeholders. She encouraged everyone to continue serving the college with dedication and fulfill their responsibilities in providing meaningful service, with a reminder that every task, regardless of its size, contributes to the institution’s mission and to the people it serves.

The College also observed a moment of silence in honor of Civil Service Commission XI – Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental Field Director Richard Ortiz, who recently passed away. The prayer was led by College Secretary Maritess Roluna, MaLit, as the DSSC community joined in expressing its condolences and remembering his contributions to public service, especially to DSSC.

The Monday Convocation reinforces DSSC’s commitment to values formation, institutional communication, and continuous professional development. These efforts support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
