Davao del Sur State College has begun implementing a Wellness Leave benefit for its officials and employees following the issuance of a memorandum from the Office of the President on February 2, 2026.
The policy follows Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 1, s. 2026, which encourages government institutions to support employee well-being, mental health, and work–life balance.
Under the memorandum, qualified employees may avail of up to five days of Wellness Leave each calendar year. The benefit applies to officials and staff who earn Vacation Leave and Sick Leave, as well as faculty members under the Teacher’s Leave system.
Two days from the total allocation will automatically be used during the College’s scheduled Wellness Break. The remaining three days may be filed individually through a leave application form and will be subject to approval by the immediate supervisor and the Human Resource Management Officer.
Wellness Leave may be used for activities that support mental and physical well-being, including rest, personal recovery, or participation in wellness activities intended to prevent work-related stress.
Employees who wish to avail of the leave are required to submit their application at least five working days before the intended date, except in cases of emergency. Unused Wellness Leave is non-cumulative and cannot be converted to cash.
The implementation of this policy supports Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-being by encouraging practices that promote a healthier and more balanced working environment within the College.
