Shaping the Future: DSSC Opens 2026 with Convocation and Executive Committee Meeting

Davao del Sur State College opened the year 2026 with a convocation held on January 5, the first working day of the year, at the DSSC Gymnasium. The activity was hosted by the Accounting Office and attended by faculty members, staff, and administrators. It served as the College’s formal opening activity for the year.

College President Dr. Augie Fuentes addressed the community and reviewed key developments from 2025. She acknowledged the efforts of offices and personnel whose work contributed to the College’s accomplishments. She also presented the general direction for 2026 and reminded the community of the importance of deliberate planning, accountability, and shared responsibility in carrying out institutional goals.

In her message, Dr. Fuentes emphasized the need to focus on present actions that shape future outcomes. She called on the College community to work with unity and consistency as the institution moves forward with its plans for the year.

During the convocation, certificates were awarded to personnel who rendered service during the Preliminary Survey Visit of the Bachelor of Secondary Education programs with majors in English, Filipino, and Social Studies. The survey visit was conducted from December 1 to 5, 2025 under the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines. The recognition acknowledged the work completed in preparation for and during the accreditation activity.

An Executive Committee meeting followed the convocation. College officials discussed priority concerns and planned activities for 2026. Areas of focus were the support of teaching and learning, the development of faculty, the welfare of students, the use of technology, and the needs of infrastructure. The dialogues aimed at the best possible use of the available resources in the College’s instruction, research, and extension functions.

The first activities of the year established the working mood for the year. The College through the convocation and the Executive Committee meeting set its short-term priorities and at the same time made sure that there would be no coordination problems among the offices since DSSC is about to start its activities for 2026.

The activities benefit Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by making the planning and academic support systems of the institution stronger and Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through organized leadership and internal coordination.
