Davao del Sur State College through its Regenerative Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence in Scaling-up Key Commodity Crops in Davao del Sur Program conducted a two day data gathering and field assessment to examine farming practices, cooperative needs, and the potential of technology-assisted fertilization in coffee and cacao production on August 5–6, 2026.
Covering the Kiblawan Multipurpose Cooperative (KMPC) in Kiblawan, Malawanit Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (MAFAMCO) in Magsaysay, Tibolo Farm Workers Association (TIFWA) in Sta. Cruz, and Bagobo Tagabawa Fair-Trade Marketing Cooperative (BATAFAMA) in Bansalan, Davao del Sur areas.
As part of the field activities, the project team, together with industry partner FarmTech Agriland Corporation, conducted fertilizer application using three methods—side dressing, knapsack application, and drone-aided application—in selected coffee farms of TIFWA and BATAFAMA. The activity aimed to generate initial data for assessing the effectiveness and potential application of drone technology in improving farm operations.
The team also gathered baseline information on farmers’ and processors’ practices, cooperative demonstration and earning sites, and the needs of farmer organizations in capacity building, market linkages, and product-market matching platform support. Agronomic parameters for coffee and cacao were likewise identified to support succeeding research and extension interventions.
The activity was led by Program Leader Dr. Alexander M. Campaner, together with project members from the College of Business Education and Governance (CBEG), College of Agriculture and Related Sciences (CARS), and College of Information and Digital Sciences (CIDS).
The program seeks to strengthen the productivity and resilience of key commodity crops in Davao del Sur through the integration of research, extension, digital technology, and industry collaboration, while supporting farmer cooperatives in adopting more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices.
The initiative supports various Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger); SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure); SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth); SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production); and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
