Davao del Sur State College brought creative writing inside the Digos City District Jail Female Dormitory on September 11, 2026, through an extension activity titled Kompos sa Loob ng Rehas, organized by the Extension and Community Services Office.
Filipino program faculty members and selected students from the College of Teacher Education facilitated the sessions, together with ECSO Director Dr. Queenie Lyn G. Almerez. The activity gave female Persons Deprived of Liberty a space to write, reflect, and put into words what they carry inside. Personal experiences, emotions, and hopes for what comes next found their way onto paper through creative writing, in a setting that made room for honesty without judgment.
The event also launched Kompos II and Kompos III, literary folios collecting works from past participants. The publications stand as a record of what the program has produced over time, and what the women behind those pages are capable of when given the chance to be heard.
The activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by extending learning opportunities beyond the classroom and into communities that rarely have access to them, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by reaching one of the most underserved populations in the justice system, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the continued collaboration between DSSC and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
