Davao del Sur State College held its regular Monday Convocation on August 10, 2026, at the college gymnasium, marking the first day of classes for Academic Year 2026-2027 as returning students and freshmen gathered with faculty, staff, and personnel for institutional updates, and values reflection, sponsored by the College of Teachers Education (CTED).
The program started with the Values Restoration led by CTED Faculty member Instr. Leslie C. Alevado, MALT, who reflected on the word “Righteousness.” Elevado emphasized that righteousness carries weight differently depending on one’s role, whether as a teacher, as a leader, or as a student. He reminded the DSSC Community that despite the various backgrounds and experiences, doing what is right is always a must for it remains a value that binds them together.
Afterwards, Dr. Cindy B. Bosil, Dean of the College of Teachers Education, presented updates and reports on the college’s recent activities and ongoing initiatives, providing the community with a glimpse of the work being carried out within the college.
More than a convocation, the activity also featured the oath-taking of 20 newly appointed personnel, composed of faculty and administrative personnel, who formally assumed their respective roles in the College.
The convocation also marked a warm welcome to the new academic year and to every student, returning and new alike. This year the college welcomes 5,542 officially enrolled students, and 1,545 of them are entering their first year.
In her message, College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes emphasized that the presence of both students and employees is an important part of the institution’s continuing journey, and encouraged everyone to actively participate and fulfill their duties and give their best in their respective role.
“As we begin this new academic year, I am reminding everyone to give your best, work as one, and always remember who we serve. Every contribution matters, and together, we can continue building a stronger DSSC for the community we serve.” Dr. Fuentes said.
Setting the tone for the new academic year, the convocation reminds the DSSC community that building an institution is a shared responsibility, working together, and remaining committed to the people the College serves. The activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting values-driven leadership and fostering an inclusive, principled learning community as new students join the institution.
