DSSC Holds Career Talk on BJMP Opportunities for Graduating Students

With the aim of providing graduating with insights into potential career opportunities in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), through its Job Placement Office held a Career Talk: Exploring BJMP Opportunities 2.0 on Thursday, October 29, at the DSSC Mini Theatre.

The activity gathered students from the Bachelor of Science in Development Communication (BS DevCom), Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), and Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) programs, along with ROTC students, faculty members, and BJMP personnel. ‎

“Most of you might wonder why you are here. You are here because your program gives you an advantage to be accepted into the Bureau due to your skills. Hard skills like IT and communication are highly in demand in the BJMP,” said Arnie B. Grajo, Job Placement Officer in his opening message.

Grajo also shared the importance of conducting the seminar, to guide the graduating students in understanding BJMP, on how to become a jail officer, what documents to prepare and how the recruitment process works.

During the career talk,  Jail Officer 2 (JO2) Jerrylyn B. Rocacorba, Community Relations Officer of the BJMP Digos City District Jail–Female Dormitory, who served as the Resource Speaker, discussed the career opportunities available in the BJMP and explained how graduates from different academic backgrounds may pursue employment in the Bureau.

JO2 Rocacorba emphasized that applicants’ degree programs do not necessarily limit their opportunities, as their qualifications, skills, and competencies are considered in determining suitable assignments.

An open forum followed, allowing students to ask questions and interact directly with the officer regarding the application process and potential career paths. ‎The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates to the invited BJMP representative, followed by a photo opportunity with the participants, marking the end of the career talk.

With this initiative, this supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
