Behind the Stage: The People Who Carried DSSC’s 7th Founding Anniversary

By the time the banners were raised and the gymnasium filled with guests, most of the real work had already been done.

The 7th Founding Anniversary of Davao del Sur State College unfolded across several days—motorcade and fun run at dawn, cultural performances, extension activities, awarding ceremonies. To the audience, it looked seamless. What they did not see were the quiet hours that made it possible.

Weeks before the celebration, small groups began meeting after classes and office hours. Faculty members squeezed planning sessions between lectures. Administrators checked timelines against academic calendars. Student leaders prepared something special for the studentry. The work was not glamorous. It was careful and repetitive.

Each office carried a portion of the responsibility. The President was the head of ideas. The Vice Presidents and deans supervised coordination within their units. The Student Affairs and Services Office managed student involvement. Culture and Arts groups practiced in borrowed spaces. Technical teams tested microphones, adjusted lighting, and ran through backup plans in case equipment failed.

Maintenance personnel prepared and fixed venues before sunrise and after sunset. Chairs were moved more than once. Tarpaulins were secured against the wind. Security staff stood in position long before guests arrived. During programs, someone was always behind the curtain checking the order of speakers or signaling the next performer.

The Documentation Team moved quietly from one venue to another. While others spoke or performed, they framed photographs, recorded footage, and took notes. They stayed until the last segment ended. Their task was not to be seen, but to make sure everything was remembered.

Even the smallest details required attention. Certificates had to be printed and sorted. Tokens arranged. Registration sheets prepared. Guests assisted to their seats. When something ran late, someone adjusted without complaint.

The anniversary did not belong to one office or one person. It was the result of shared effort, cared for by faculty, staff, students, and partners who understood their roles and carried them out.

Seven years as an institution is measured not only by buildings or milestones, but by the people who show up and do the work. The celebration may have taken place on stage, but the foundation of it was built in planning rooms, rehearsal corners, storage areas, and early mornings.

That is what sustained the 7th Founding Anniversary of DSSC—not spectacle, but steady hands.
