Davao del Sur State College held its Agency In-House Review 2026 for the Faculty Category on July 29, 2026, at the DSSC Mini-Theater, with sixteen research papers presented before a panel of external evaluators.
Ms. Rhoda M. Hilis, MABM, Research Coordinator of the College of Business Education and Governance, opened the program. College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes followed with a message that put research where she believes it belongs. “Research is not a requirement we fulfill on paper. It is how this institution stays honest about what it knows, what it does not know, and what it still needs to find out. Every paper presented today is proof that our faculty takes that seriously.”
The panel that evaluated the papers was composed of Dr. Gilbert A. Importante, Executive Director of SMAARRDEC and OPDEL Director; Dr. Delia M. Ayano, Former Assistant Regional Director of DTI XI and member of the DSSC Board of Trustees; and Dr. Mark Jude F. Trondillo, Head of the AANR Research Center at DSSC.
After deliberation, three papers were recognized. First place went to Nelle Angelique F. Kakilala for her study on pectin extraction from pomelo peels and its application as a coating for grapes. Novie James Ligue took second place for work on integrating indigenous knowledge in teaching biodiversity among Grade 10 learners in a Bagobo-Tagabawa school in Davao del Sur. Andrew Paul A. Palero placed third with a value chain analysis and investment roadmap for Arabica coffee in Davao del Sur.
The activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening the research capacity of DSSC faculty, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through applied research in agriculture and education, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the participation of external evaluators from government and research institutions.
