Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) held its first Monday convocation for May on May 4, 2026. The event, sponsored by the Admission and Scholarship Offices, took place at the DSSC Gymnasium. The activity focused on ‘Concern’ as the value of the week. Institutional updates were also discussed.
Rubie Jane Balaba from the Planning Office led the Values Restoration segment, which explored the concept of ‘concern’ focused on environmental responsibility, with a biblical perspective on stewardship and caring for God’s creation. She reminded employees to live with the purpose of their existence and the role they ought to take in protecting the environment.
It was followed by the sharing of office updates, delivered by Dulce Marie Martinez, Director of the Admission and Scholarship Offices, focusing on key developments in the Admission process. Among the major updates were changes in admission qualifications, the implementation of a final ranking system, and updates to the entrance examination schedule and remaining available slots. Adjustments were made to streamline procedures and ensure a more organized and transparent admission process for the new incoming students.
Mr. Sydney Barsalote from Solarwave Tech Enterprise, who offers services specializing in solar panel installation and all-in-one hybrid system packages, introduced the Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL) from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), a green financing program allowing active government workers to borrow up to ₱500,000 for home solar panel installation, aiming to lower electricity bills and promote renewable energy. Barsalote encourages DSSC employees to avail themselves of the program through their company.
The Information and Communication Technology Center (ICTC) also presented updates on the improvements in the Daily Time Record (DTR) and biometric system to ensure more efficient logs and monitoring.
The convocation ended with a message from the Vice President for Admin and Finance, Dr. Luciano D. Nasibog Jr., who shared that “true growth is not measured by individual achievements, but by how much one cares for others, especially in challenging situations.” He encouraged everyone to choose kindness even when it is not convenient, and that small acts of understanding can make a lasting difference. Quoting Maya Angelou, he reminded the audience that “people will never forget how you make them feel,” stating that empathy and compassion in building a supportive workplace environment are a must.
By holding regular Monday Convocations, DSSC not only advances its support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 for Quality Education, but also reaffirms its commitment to nurturing a compassionate, responsible, and purpose-driven community. Each convocation inspires collective action and ongoing growth, ensuring DSSC continues to positively impact its stakeholders and society at large.
