DSSC Delivers Holiday Hope to BJMP Digos City Female Dormitory

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Female Dormitory in Digos City marked the Christmas season with the visit of Davao del Sur State College through its special Christmas Outreach Program on December 11, 2025. The activity was organized by the Extension and Community Relations Office led by Dr. Queenie Lyn G. Almerez, in coordination with JO3 Jesyl R. Pajarito, Unit Chief Paralegal, together with BJMP staff and interns. The gathering formed part of the “Life Behind Bars” program, which supports rehabilitation efforts and affirms the dignity of Persons Deprived of Liberty.

What began as a simple outreach turned into a lively expression of gratitude and shared goodwill. The PDLs presented songs, dances, and Christmas carols that filled the dormitory with a warm and cheerful atmosphere. Guests offered Christmas gifts during the program, and in return received handmade items such as small Christmas trees and flower arrangements crafted by the PDLs. The exchange reflected the growing skills of the participants and the cooperation built between the College and the facility.

The initiative was carried out with the support of DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, together with Dr. Amelie T. Trinidad, Director for Instructions, and faculty members from the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences who have worked with the BJMP in previous extension activities. Their continued involvement shows the commitment of the College to community engagement and to programs that reach persons in restricted settings.

The outreach activity reflects the aim of DSSC to provide meaningful opportunities for learning, service, and social awareness. Through the “Life Behind Bars” program and the “Livelihood Education” initiative, the College assists PDLs in preparing for reintegration by offering educational guidance and practical training.

The program is aligned with a number of Sustainable Development Goals, most notably Quality Education (SDG 4), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). In its collaboration with the BJMP, DSSC is not only supporting the rehabilitation and learning of inmates but also enhancing the recognition of their rights and involvement of their neighborhoods in the construction of more secure and diverse communities.
