Davao del Sur State College held its regular Monday Convocation on June 15, 2026, at the DSSC Gymnasium. The activity, sponsored by the Office of the President, brought together faculty, staff, and personnel for institutional updates and a reflection on the college’s core values.
College and Board Secretary Maritess A. Roluna, MaLit, delivered the value focus for the week, centering her talk on the word Purity. She told those gathered that purity is not limited to physical cleanliness. It also speaks to how an employee conducts himself in his work, whether his decisions are honest, his intentions sincere, and his sense of duty real. She pointed out that when this kind of purity takes hold in a workplace, integrity begins to guide how decisions are made, professionalism becomes the norm rather than the exception, and institutional standards are lived out rather than posted on a wall.
Offices under the Office of the President then took turns sharing updates. Information Officer III Neil John T. Audan, MPA, head of the Public Relations and Information Office, reminded the community to be careful about how much they lean on Artificial Intelligence in producing content. He also asked unit heads and offices to submit their part in an ongoing project being handled by his office. Auditor I Rena Marie Garcia of the Internal Audit Service Office gave a brief introduction to her office, explaining its role in the institution, the recent training and memberships her team has completed, and the training activities ahead.
Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Siverlyn M. Camposano, who had been away on international engagements, congratulated DSSC on passing the ISO 9001:2015 recertification audit. She reminded every office to keep documents in order and to stay ready for the upcoming university-hood visit, urging the community to hold the course until the college reaches that goal.
President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes reflected on what the college had gone through in the days before the convocation. Chief among the week’s events was the completion of the ISO 9001:2015 Recertification Audit, which succeeded despite a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that interrupted the proceedings and unsettled many. Employees pushed through it. The audit was completed, and the recertification was granted. President Fuentes thanked everyone for holding together under pressure, saying that what carried the institution through was not procedure alone but the character of its people.
She then spoke on student welfare, a subject made more urgent by a recent tragedy involving two student-athletes. She asked every employee to take their duty of care seriously, to apply proper risk management in institutional activities, and not to treat the safety of students as a formality.
To close, President Fuentes called on the community to live by the college’s SMART values and to put service ahead of personal interest. DSSC, she said, is working toward becoming an institution that meets the aims of SDG 4 on Quality Education, in keeping with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
