Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), under the leadership of the college President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, held a bamboo planting activity titled “52 Years, 52 Bamboos: A Pre-Birthday Outreach Initiative with RD Maricar” on April 23, 2026, at the Bamboo Processing Center, Kapoc, Matanao Extension Campus.
The activity was organized as part of the pre-celebration of the 52nd birthday of Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, CESO III, Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office XI, in recognition of her leadership and contribution to higher education and its initiatives.
Dr. Fuentes, together with the College Executive Committee, Academic Council, Office of the President personnel, Bamboo Processing Hub personnel, and the Bamboo Propagation, Field Management, and Harvest Trainees, was joined by the celebrant herself, RD Casquejo, along with her personnel, in the planting activity to promote environmental sustainability and community engagement.
This activity supports DSSC’s emphasis on Bamboo as a renewable resource that supports ecological balance and livelihood opportunities, at the same time aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 for Climate Action, SDG 15 for Life on Land, and SDG 17 for Partnerships for the Goals.
