Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), through its Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Office, led by Dr. Cherry Ann P. Roxas, conducted a Patent Searching and Drafting Workshop on April 2-23, 2026, at the DSSC Boardroom.
The activity gathered selected faculty members to strengthen their knowledge in intellectual property protection and innovation.
Resource speaker Dyle S. Legaspi, Innovation & Technology Support Office (ITSO) Manager of the University of Mindanao (UM), discussed patent searching techniques and guided participants in drafting patent applications. The session covered identifying patentable ideas, conducting prior art searches, and preparing structured documents.
The workshop also tackled Philippine intellectual property laws, including Republic Act 8293 and Republic Act 10372, which outline the protection of patents, utility models, and industrial designs.
Through this activity, participants gained practical skills to support future research and innovation projects, reinforcing the importance of safeguarding intellectual creations.
This effort shows the college’s support for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 for Quality Education, SDG 9 for Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17 for Partnerships for the Goals.
