Davao del Sur State College officially opened the first DAVSURANON Sports Fest 2026 on May 14 at the DSSC Gymnasium, gathering students, faculty members, and participants for three days of sports and cultural activities.
Organized through the Sports Development Office, this year’s celebration carries the theme “Paghiusa pinaagi sa Dula, Kultura, ug Kadasig.” Activities are scheduled from May 14 to 16 in different venues around Digos City.
The opening program brought together delegates from various colleges and offices of the institution. In his remarks, Office of Student Affairs and Services Director Dr. Jeric Anthony S. Arnado spoke about how sports and cultural events help strengthen relationships among students while encouraging discipline and participation beyond the classroom.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Siverlyn M. Camposano also reminded participants that activities like the sports fest help students develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills alongside academics.
Meanwhile, College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes encouraged everyone to value camaraderie throughout the celebration and make the most of the experience as a community activity for DSSCians.
Sports Development Office Head Dr. Gideon I. Juezan later presented the lineup of activities for the three-day event, which includes the Dance Festival, Laro ng Lahi, badminton games, pickleball tournament, and social night.
The first day featured the Dance Festival competition, where students competed in Aerobic Dance, Folk Dance, Contemporary Dance, and Street Dance categories.
More than competition, the DAVSURANON Sports Fest also serves as a break from academics and a chance for students to interact, represent their groups, and take part in campus activities outside the classroom.
The activity also relates to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting active lifestyles, and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through student development and participation beyond academics.
