DSSC Teatro Davsuranon Coaches Join 44th National Folk Dance Workshop

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), through the Culture and Arts Office (CAO), recently participated in the 44th National Folk Dance Workshop held on May 17-23, 2026, at the Iloilo Sports Complex Covered Gym, Iloilo City.

The activity was spearheaded by the Samahang Tagapagtaguyod ng Katutubong Sayaw ng Pilipinas, in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, National Commission for Culture and Arts, West Visayas State University, and the Provincial Tourism Office of Iloilo. With the theme “Tukib, Sot, Likha,” the event was attended by participants from all over the country, aiming to enhance their competencies in folk dance instruction, choreography, cultural research, and performance production.

Representing DSSC were Physical Education (PE) Instructors Carl Wayne Villarta, MAEd-PE, and Mark San Pedro, MAEd-PE, who joined other cultural workers, dance educators, and folk dance practitioners from different parts of the country, in the week-long workshop and cultural immersion activity on preservation, promotion, and creative development of Philippine folk dances and indigenous cultural traditions. The event also paved the way for cultural exchange and collaboration between artists and educators committed to preserving Filipino heritage through performing arts.

Through their attendance in this activity, DSSC shows its support and dedication to nurturing culturally grounded performers and advocates, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 for Quality Education, and SDG 11 for Sustainable Cities and Communities.
