Davao del Sur State College (DSSC)- College of Agriculture and Related Sciences (CARS) held its 1st Clinical Pinning Ceremony for Veterinary Technology Students on August 20, 2026, at the DSSC Mini Theater.
Escorted by their parents, the students took part in the processional before receiving their nameplates and clinical pins, marking a step toward greater responsibility in their chosen profession.
CARS Dean Jade Caintic, MSc welcomed the students and reminded them that the pin represents their “hard work, commitment, and readiness to take another step” in their Veterinary Technology journey. She emphasized that working with animals is not only an occupation but a responsibility to care for and treat them with compassion, noting that their future role extends beyond animal health.
Representing Provincial Governor Hon. Yvonne Rona Cagas, Provincial Supervising Administrative Officer Charles Ryan Cababat congratulated the students and highlighted the value of Veterinary Technology in an agricultural province like Davao del Sur. “We celebrate not simply because of the pin but a step towards becoming professionals,” he said, encouraging the students to remember why they chose the profession and to become models for those who will follow.
Resource speaker Dr. Camillo M. Moncada prepared the students for the realities of clinical work, where they will encounter “real animals, real patients, and real clients.” He encouraged them not to be afraid to say, “I don’t know yet, but I am willing to learn,” while emphasizing the need for patience, gentleness, and compassion when dealing with animals and making decisions that may affect their lives.
DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes congratulated the students and recalled the College’s efforts to establish the program despite the challenges of being a young institution and building its pool of professional instructors. She encouraged the students to pursue further studies, contribute to the growth of the program, and eventually give back to the College.
Instr. Faith Moncada underscored the meaning of the students’ nameplates and pins, reminding them that the nameplate represents their identity while the pin represents their commitment to a profession requiring “knowledge, competence, compassion, and responsibility.” She added, “May your nameplate remind you who you are, and your pin who you stand for.”
The ceremony continued with the Donning and Pinning of the Nameplate and Clinical Pin, performed by the students’ parents, followed by the Oath of Commitment and a prayer for the students. Student representative Javear Janne Manzanades also shared the students’ reasons for choosing Veterinary Technology and their aspirations for the profession.
More than a ceremonial milestone, the first clinical pinning marked the students’ preparation to apply their training in actual settings and serve the animal health and agricultural needs of their communities. Through the program, DSSC contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
