Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) supported the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in the conduct of the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) in Davao del Sur 2026, held on September 14 and 15 at the Sulop Gymnasium and Sulop Civil Society Center.
Led by DOST Davao Region and DOST Davao del Sur, the two-day celebration carried the theme “Science, Technology, & Digital Innovation Driving Food Security, Sustainable Energy, & National Resilience.” It brought together government agencies, academic institutions, local government units, students, innovators, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders.
DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes delivered a message of support during the opening program, noting the value of bringing science and technology initiatives closer to communities.
“Science, technology, and innovation become more meaningful when they respond to the actual needs of our communities. As an academic institution, DSSC has been working with DOST and our other partners in turning research and innovation into solutions that can be used on the ground,” Fuentes said.
DSSC also joined DOST, the Philippine Information Agency Davao Region, and the LGU Sulop Information Office in facilitating “Kapehan sa RSTW in DavSur,” a press conference that featured the programs and initiatives of the celebration.
Day 1 featured the launching and turnover of the Community-led Innovation Center (CLIC) Tibolo and Davao del Sur Innovation Hub (iHub), the opening of STI exhibits, “Ready, Set, Resilient! ADRRM Adventure for Kids!”, and “Smart Agriculture for a Resilient Future.”
On Day 2, activities included the Davao del Sur STARBOOKS Whiz Bee, a forum on “Transforming Local Public Services through Science, Technology, and Digital Innovation,” and a session on FDA regulations and Halal opportunities for MSMEs. The celebration concluded with the recognition of SETUP cooperators, DOST scholars and awardees, Whiz Bee winners, partners, and exhibitors.
DSSC’s participation in RSTW showcases the institution’s presence as an academic and research institution that contributes to the promotion of science, technology, innovation, and community development within the region.
The event showed its contribution to the attainment of the following SDGs: SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
