Davao del Sur State College and Lao Foundation, Inc. held their annual Scholarship Orientation and Awarding Ceremony on September 18, 2026, at Lamisa Food and Venue, marking the fourth year of a partnership built around giving deserving students a way through college.
The morning opened with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the two institutions, followed by messages from College President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes and Ms. Cristina Embate-Viray, Head of Operations of Lao Foundation, Inc. New grantees signed their scholarship agreements and were formally awarded their scholarships before the program moved into its closing segments.
The part of the morning that stayed with the room came from Ms. Meldrid Mait, a Bachelor of Agro-Forestry graduate and LFI scholar, who spoke three days into her first job with Lao Foundation, Inc. itself. She did not have to say much. The fact of where she was standing said most of it.
Graduating scholars were also recognized before Ms. Sheena Fidelson, Program Head of Lao Foundation, Inc., delivered the closing remarks.
The partnership supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing financial access to higher education for students who would otherwise struggle to stay enrolled, SDG 1 (No Poverty) through the scholarship program’s direct role in lifting grantees and their families, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the sustained collaboration between DSSC and Lao Foundation, Inc. in investing in the next generation of graduates.
