DSSC holds Monday Convocation, Emphasizes Unity Amid Challenges

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) conducted its regular Monday Convocation at the DSSC Gymnasium on March 30, 2026, sponsored by the Office of Gender and Development (GAD).

The convocation opened with the Values Restoration session led by Records Officer III Laurevie Pausal, with the value focus of the week centering on Repentance, which is also in line with the college’s celebration of the Holy Week. The reflection of the values restoration encouraged the college community to pause, reflect, and realign their action with shared values.

The sponsoring office also shared updates involving their office, including the introduction of its GAD focal points from different colleges and extension campuses, set to help continue the efforts in promoting inclusivity and gender-responsive initiatives across the college community.

In her message, DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes acknowledged the College’s recent recognition, noting that while the institution was only aiming for progress, the unexpected awards that came along with it are rewarding. She highlighted some of DSSC’s recent achievements, including being ranked as the Top 3 out of 113 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) during the recent AACCUP recognition, commending the program heads of MAEd Mathematics Teaching, MAEd Language Teaching, MAEd Science Teaching, MAEd Educational Management, and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science, Crop Protection, and Horticulture.

She also recognized the College’s distinction as Silver Cluster Awardee of IPOPhil for its exemplary performance as ITSO, along with the individuals who contributed to this accomplishment. Dr. Fuentes further congratulated Rhoda M. Hilis, MABM, for securing a ₱7 Million PCAARRD grant, and acknowledged the college’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) unit for earning the Championship in the recent 1st 11th Regional Community Defense Group (RDDG) ROTC Fancy Drill Competition.

Addressing the current global situation, Dr. Fuentes stressed awareness and resilience, stating, “We are aware that the global environment is becoming increasingly unstable,” while expressing gratitude to the DSSC Community for continuing their work despite challenges, adding, “Salamat…padayon despite the looming economic crisis.”

She called on the entire DSSC family to remain united, emphasizing that the strength of the institution lies in its people. “DSSC has always been strong because of you,” she said while gently reminding everyone to practice prudent resource management, including reducing unnecessary spending.

Dr. Fuentes concluded her message with hope and determination: “We will not only endure the challenges, but we will emerge stronger and more resilient.”

The Monday Convocation serves as a platform for reinforcing institutional values, sharing updates, and strengthening solidarity in the college community, while continuously supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 for Quality Education, and SDG 5 for Gender Equality.
