To enhance participants’ knowledge and practical skills in bamboo hut construction, the Bamboo Team, headed by Dr. Graciela L. Caballero of Davao del Sur State College, conducted a Bamboo Hut Construction Training under the SkillsUpNet Philippines (SUN PH) Program – Phase 2, funded by the Asian Development Bank, on November 3-5, 2026, at DSSC.
The training was attended by three bamboo growers from Barangay Sooong, beneficiaries of the Bamboo is Life Project, and four bamboo growers from Barangay Osmeña, beneficiaries of the STCBF Bamboo Project. Also in attendance were three students from Serapion Basalo Memorial Colleges, Inc. (SBMCI), Kiblawan, and five personnel from the DSSC General Services Office (GSO).
Arn Maurice Rojas of GreenRoots Solution Inc., together with his staff, served as resource persons and provided technical guidance throughout the activity.
The training strengthened participants’ technical capabilities through hands-on learning in proper bamboo preparation, construction techniques, and material utilization. Furthermore, the training promoted bamboo as a sustainable material for livelihood development in their respective communities.
On the final day, DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes witnessed the presentation of the completed bamboo hut constructed during the training.
Through this activity, this supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
