The Science and Technology Community-Based Farm (STCBF) for Sustainable Production and Market Linkage of Smallholders Seaweed Growers Group, a DOST-PCAARRD-funded extension project of Davao del Sur State College, successfully conducted an Orientation on the Internal Control System (ICS) on April 7, 2026, at Arnaldo’s Hotel, Digos City.
The activity aimed to equip seaweed farmer-beneficiaries with important information about the ICS, a system that helps make sure production follows quality, safety, and traceability standards. The orientation highlighted the role of ICS in improving group management, making production practices more organized and uniform, and maintaining product quality. These are important factors in meeting the national quality standards and reaching better market opportunities.
Participants were guided on how to implement an effective ICS that can enhance their capacity to produce safe and high-quality seaweed products, improve farm management practices, and build trust with potential buyers and institutional partners. Moreover, the initiative highlighted the importance of shared responsibility among farmer groups in maintaining compliance and ensuring long-term market competitiveness.
The activity was attended by the project leader, Rhoda M. Hilis, MABM, together with other project members, and seaweed farmer-beneficiaries from the Punta Biao Seaweed Farmers Association (PBiSFA), along with Barangay Captain Danilo S. Sato of Barangay Cogon, Digos City. Their active participation reflects the strong collaboration between local stakeholders and project facilitators in promoting sustainable and responsible seaweed farming practices.
This initiative showcases the college’s support for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 8 for Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 12 for Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 14 for Life Below Water, and SDG 17 for Partnerships for the Goals.
