Davao del Sur State College conducted an orientation and workshop on intellectual property on April 16, 2026, at the Kiblawan Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.
The activity was part of the College’s ongoing work under the program on regenerative agriculture and artificial intelligence for key crops. It brought together project members, students, and cooperative members for a discussion on how research outputs and innovations can be protected.
Ms. Rio Jean Molina, the College’s intellectual property officer, served as the resource speaker. She explained the basics of intellectual property, including how ideas, inventions, and creative work can be registered. She also walked the participants through the steps involved and why documentation matters, especially when projects move toward wider use.
The session was attended by Project Leader Dr. Alexander M. Campaner, along with members of the project team and KMPC. For many of the participants, the discussion was their first exposure to the process of protecting outputs developed from their work.
The activity also showed how academic work connects with community practice. Farmers and cooperative members were able to relate the discussion to their own products and ongoing projects.
The workshop relates to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by providing practical learning outside the classroom, and Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through support for local innovation and technology use.
