Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) joined the global celebration of World Bamboo Day 2025 through a bamboo planting activity held at Brgy. New Murcia, Matanao, Davao del Sur, on September 18, 2025.
In partnership with the Provincial Bamboo Development Council, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), and the Barangay Local Government of New Murcia, DSSC planted giant bamboo seedlings, which are known for their promising exceptional growth rate and versatility. A highly promising resource for DSSCs bamboo initiative projects in strengthening sustainability, research, and innovation.
This initiative supports the operation of the DSSCs Engineered Bamboo Processing Hub. By planting these seedlings, DSSC aims to ensure the sustainable supply of quality raw materials for its future bamboo-based products. Simultaneously, it also aims to contribute to climate action through excess-carbon absorption, soil-erosion prevention, and promotion of eco-friendly economic opportunities.
The activity not only ensures the sustainability of DSSC’s bamboo initiatives but also strengthens partnerships with local and national agencies in promoting environmental protection and livelihood development. By linking research, production, and community involvement, DSSC continues to position bamboo as both an ecological solution and an economic resource not just for the institution but for the whole of Davao del Sur.
