Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) through the Research Laboratory and Services Center (RLSC) in collaboration with the Philippine Science High School – Davao Region and Philippine Science High School – SOCCSARGEN Region. successfully hosted a Lecture-Workshop on Molecular Docking Experiments on May 13, 2026 at the DSSC Mini Theatre.
The event featured discussion and hands-on sessions on computational chemistry and molecular docking applications in research.
DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes delivered the opening remarks where she expressed her belief in the importance of strengthening research capabilities and advancing scientific innovation through specialized training and collaborations.
Dr. Jonel P. Saludes, a Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Center for Natural Drug Discovery and Development at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City, led the lecture proper, where participants joined an in-depth discussion and hands-on learning experience on computational chemistry and molecular biology.
Meanwhile Mr. Jade Joshua Teodosio, a Science Research Analyst at the Center for Chemical Biology and Biotechnology of the University of San Agustin, guided the hands-on demonstration and introduced participants to various tools and platforms used in molecular docking experiments, including Protein Retrieval using Protein Data Bank (PDB), Ligand Retrieval using PubChem, Lipinski’s Rule of Five using SwissADME, Ramachandran Analysis using Ramplot, Binding Site Prediction using P2Rank, and Interaction Analysis using SeamDock.
Participants then proceeded to a mini manuscript writing where they were able to apply the concepts and techniques discussed during the lecture and demonstration sessions. This was followed by a reporting and presentation activity participated in by the attendees, allowing them to present their outputs and share insights gained from the workshop.
With this support towards advancing research, innovation, and scientific development, DSSC aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 for Quality Education, and SDG 9 for Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
